I haven't tried it as I don't own one, but there was a discussion on this a while ago and the consensus seems to be that it fits: Canon 50D and 40D housing are a match, Finally!!!

Thanks for the pointer (searching for 40d or 50d did not give any results )

that is good news! I can get a good deal on a 40D, going there tomorrow to check the cam out.

40D (and possible future 50D) looks a lot better than buying a housing for my current 350D which does not really outperform my G9 in macro.
