Think I'll have to buy a new strobe from ike since UPS lost track of mine when send in for repair.
Hesitating between ds-125 and ds-50. Any comments on when which of the 2 is most usable? Apart from the difference in price of course.....
kind regards
Edwin van Riel.
The DS125 has a wider spread which will be good if you use the Wideangle lens w/ your CP5000. The DS125 also comes with a power controller on the strobe (3 settings) vs only full on the DS50 unless you get the separate controller. The DS125 also has a built in modelling light that I love (not sure if the 50 has it).

DS125 for sure. More power. More options on power settings. Wider coverage. Best choice out there, period.
I have both. I often set up my 5000 with the 50 and my D100 with 2 125s. I find that with using the Ike manual controller that the 50 is a very good strobe to use with the 5000. True the 125 would be better for true wide angle. But, I find myself using the 5000 with one 50 a lot. I'm considering getting a second one.
The 50 usually does not receive the respect and admiration it deserves because it is too small, too cheap and perhaps does not look sophisticated. It has proven to be an absolute workhorse in dependability and capability with fast recycle times and excellent battery life. Its other deterrent is our stating honest and actual intensity and coverage claims compared to the 100+ degree coverage nonsense some prestigious manufacturers claim.
Don't forget that it is so small and light weight that you can bring it on your carry on luggage when you fly to that dream vacation. With the battery door removed it is clearly harmless and therefore very likely not to be confiscated by airport security. A DS 125 might look like a disguised bomb to a over zealous security guard with it's rechargeable battery pack.
Thanks all, ordered the 125 mainly because it's aiming light is very good usable in our cold, dark and murky waters. Have such a light on my ss-200 and would not want to do without it. Airport security has never been a problem except for some home build lights and chargers :-)
