Home for Christmas and just realised that my Dad has a lathe so able to get a tripod fixing machined out of stainless steel that i've been after however PROBLEM.
Any idea how "deep" the space inside of the Ikelite tray (two handled SLR) is, i.e. How thick is the lead weight insert ?
Any responses greatly appreciated and URGENT as having to visit all realatives so leaving tomorrow.
(can't measure my own as I live in Dubai and currently in UK)
I promise to post photos of prject when all finished.
Many thanks,
Cheers,
Richard B.
Hi Richard,
mmm - I will try and help but hope that somone else kicks in also as I am away from home too and also away from a victim to measure.
The ally base itself is 6mm+ and there is clearance inside for at least 6mm ( I suspect more ).
There are some pictures up on my web site of my conversion - address in the signature. Post back here if you have a specific question that I can help with.

Thanks Paul, Reassuring to know the thickness of the tray but interested in how much room inside.
Anybody out there who is not doing the annual Christmas pilgrimidge to all the reltives and can get there hands on the lead weight to measure the thickness.
Thanks,
Richard B
My ikelite weight (that i dont need because it is negative under water already) is just below 1,2 cm thick. It is kind of hammerhead shaped (12,4 x 3,6 cm with 1.6 x 2,8 bits "cut out" on each side). The front of the longest part is not straight, but edged ....
(20D housing)
Fantastic, that makes sense, will go and kick the lathe.
