Sea Tool or Nexus housing for Nikon D300

  1. Do we have any pratical use comparison between Sea Tool & Nexus housing for Nikon D300. I am looking for things like

    1, Weight comparions, buyonance characteristic.

2, Ergonomic, control lay out. Single hand aperture & shutter manipulation.

    3, Bulkhead/Strobes/hot shoes connection support.

4, Port support, glass vs plastic.

5, Port flexibilty, modular or 1 port per lenses

    Other consideration ?

I did read this thread: http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22886

    Thanks!

  2. Hi CADiver,

I think this belongs in the SLR forum - this is the consumer/digicam forum.

  3. Moved. Both or decent housings. I think I'd favour the SeaTool, but I think it is also important to consider what dealer support each has in your country/region/city etc.

  4. Good news. Ryan just tested and confirmed that the Nexus multiport for the 70-180 does work properly with the Seatool Nexus port adapter. The most compelling reason for me to use a Nexus system now applies to Seatool too. :P All they need to do is a D700 housing for that D700x that's coming and I'll be set.

The Seatool housing is very small yet it supports a surprising number of the D300 controls. Ergonomics are pretty good but you have to get used to a gripless right hand or else give up the back focus control. Seatool offers a range of port adapters so it's easier to get a wide variety of domes compared to Nexus. I'd suspect that bouyancy issues are similar for both manufacturers. You need to plan on some floaty strobe arms.

I got the Seatool because of the back focus control, the complete support of functions, the popup flash capability (that Nexus also provides), and the support for several manufacturers' port systems including Nexus and Inon whose macro ports are most interesting to me.

1: Probably not a lot different.

2: Nexus ergonomics are good but doesn't offer all controls I want. Seatool does.

3: Similar. Seatool allows control over popup flash. Idk about Nexus.

4: Seatool supports all Nexus plus several of brands as well as its own.

    5: Same as 4.

Seatool would be my choice. Hard to beat a Nexus grip though I've adapted an Inon grip and it's pretty good.

  5. Hi,

One of difficulty on Nexus was availability & it took many weeks to get one after order.

It looks like delivery has been improved.

Nexus D300 housing is convertable to take d200 or d700 (factory upgrade or DIY) and

even maybe for future model (d400 ? d700x or d800?).

  7. I'm rebuilding the Death Star. All I need is two Hartenberger 625 macro strobes and I'll be set.

  8. And you don't need to worry about the travel weight. Even if you leave them at home you'll still have enough light!

Can some one please point out which part of the port is which part/model number ?

Is the front glass ? I think Nexus has both glass and plastic port, right ?

Ryan also told me Sea Tool has a modular port system, base + different extension ring and then the glass front.

So once again I am confuse when there are choices. Please advise.

    Thanks!
