So - yesterday, I was on a conference call, bored out of my mind and daydreaming about our upcoming vacation... While pretending to work, I rechecked the prices of a flight we'd booked to Bali for May of 2009. (We bought our tickets a couple of months ago.) Imagine my surprise when the prices had dropped $800 dollars per ticket - $1600!!! I called the airline (EVA), and while they could not simply issue a refund, they allowed me to cancel our initial booking fee-free and rebook at the lower fare. It took a bit of time, and I had to be sugary-sweet when I was a little irritated about the absolutely massive fare drop, but hey - $1600, right? I was very happy with how kind they were - they did not have to waive the fees! I have been issued credits before for fare changes, but I have never been able to get that money back into my hands otherwise.
I was also told yesterday that some of the online travel agencies (e.g., Orbitz, Expedia) will offer a price guarantee, but since we try to fly particular airlines to accumulate miles and also tend to book premium economy tickets for flights over oceans, I don't use those sites much.
Happy 2009 (it's started pretty darned well for me!!!) -
Allison
