  1. We must overnight in Tokyo in late March. Arrive early afternoon. Leave next morning. Need something bigger than a cigar tube. :dancing:

Edit: Arrive early morning. Leave noon the next day.

  2. I'd just stay at the airport for less than 24 hrs stopover. It'll cost you over $100 just to go and return to Narita. The hotels around the airport like the Nikko and Holiday Inn are very clean and have free internet. You can visit Narita San Temple then have dinner at the Narita institutionalized Kikuya restaurant nearby. Everyone who's been to Narita a few times has been there.

If you must stay in the city, transport time is long. At least an hour to get into Tokyo (depending on where you stay, it can take about 80mins with the N'EX train to Shibuya or Shinjuku. I recommend the Chuo area, which is closer to Narita than Shinjuku. There's a great hotel in the area but it really depends on how much you want to spend.

Once in the city, you can geek out in Akihabara (esp in Yodobashi, the Fry's/B&H/Costco of electronics in Japan). I always buy something stupid whenever I go. Remember to get your 5% sales tax back.

If your flight timing allows, do visit the Tsukiji (sp?) fish market. It's the saddest thing to see bluefin tuna being cut up but at least you see the world's most impressive fish auction in action. I hear they've tried restricting visitor access to the auctions lately so I'd check before waking up at 4.30 to go :dancing:

Two years ago we stayed in the Mercure Hotel Narita. A village not far from the Narita airport. The hotel van will transport you to/from the airport at no charge. Check out Narita; kinda charming. There was a Tiger (drum) ceremony the next morning during our stay. The cheaper, over night gaijin rooms are in to older section. Nothing special, but clean.

:dancing: I lived in the Dallas area for many years, I may know you. If interested PM me.
