Hi. Wondering about how to manually WB the Sony HC9?! The only way I can figure out how to do it is with the LCD screen open. But is this possible under the water when in the housing. To me you would load the camera in the housing, descend to depth and hold a white card in front of the lens(or other item as many have said in other forums for this model), then press the WB button. But to do this you need the LCD open and press at least 2 different buttons. Someone please advise. Cheers.

White balance on Sony HC9

You're right. What you do is move the WB function up to the top level menu on the Camcorder. Then get a housing that has an optional manual control rod that can be pushed/rotated as needed to access the LCD screen. Gates and Ocean Images do it with the LCD open flat. You can see the controls (2 black knobs) in this picture on the O/I site. The control rods are visible in front of the LCD screen. http://www.oceanimagesinc.com/products/hou...es_housings.htmHi. Cheers. On the L&M Bluefin you open the LCD and flip it back against the camera body - the control is mounted in a small window on the lower left corner of the housing. You can see it in this video briefly: http://www.uwimaging.com/hc7/hc7video.htm
Ikelite has a similar design.

Depends on which housing you get. I believe they are almost identical to the HC7. I have a Gates HC7. Gates incorporated a plunger control in the viewing window which you can move around to hit certain buttons on the viewing LCD so that you can activate MWB. I believe Light & Motion as a more sophisticated manual control/knob that when you rotate it, it will hit the appropriate LCD screen buttons in the proper sequence to activate MWB (any L&M owners, please correct me if I'm wrong). In the L&M housing, the LCD is flipped over (facing out so the control can reach it).

I see what you mean about flipping the LCD back againest the camera body for the Bluefin. Nice little fit. But for the Gates you say "open flat", which I think means you open as normal then rotate so the screen is actually facing up? Is this correct? I understand about the control rods and will check out the video tomorrow when internet back to full speed. But cheers, it makes sense now, if I have got it right.
