  1. I would love to see a whale shark up that close and personal. How did you find the dive operators in these areas?

  2. What a great collection of images! All of the photos are striking in that they appear so clear and contrasty even on my uncalibrated monitor. Excellent work with both the light and composition.

  5. Beo, nice shots. Would love to hear what your itinerary was. We were looking into going to Tanzania for our honeymoon last year but had to change our plans. I'd still love to get out there sometime.

  6. Ah Pemba with Raf, the crazy dervish! Those were the days.

I see you did the Western sites. Did they bother to bring you out to the Eastern sites or was it too rough as usual?

  7. Great photos, I like the nudibranchs most. Just dove South Africa (cold!!), wish to go to Mozambique someday..

  8. great shots beo, nice work.. where was the best diving?

    Hi Stephen,

if you dont like "mass-whalesharking" in Exmouth/West Australia, this is the place to go!

one week in the season concentrating on "Sea Safaris" (looking for snorkel possibilities with whalesharks, humpbackwhales and sometimes even hammerheads) gives you a 99% chance to succeed.

we did 9 days diving and on the way back from the last dive we "stumbled" over the first baby, next day Sea Safari another one.

for informations have a look at:

    Hi Pakman,

was the third time in Tanzania.

if you want to go for about 2 weeks i would recomend Ngoro Ngoro and Serengeti Safari (a must!!) and diving Zanzibar (famous spots are Mnemba Island + Eleven Bank) and Pemba (Fundu Gap, Njao Gap + Misali Island)

no east coast diving, too buisy with other customers.

next time i will push him to do some exploration dives at the east coast and out in the Mozambique Channel, we watched the fishermen bring frequently big marlins, i really would like to look for some baitball action!

  12. Thank you all for the Feedback, it eases the exertions of travelling and diving;)

the best spots i dived in East Africa were:

Tofo/Mozambique: Manta Reef (with devil ray cleaning stations, we had no mantas but some huge potato cods, big snapper scools

and a unique landscape with canyons and crevices, breathtaking, especially with good viz!)

Galleria and Oasis (beautiful deep reefs with occasionelly humpback and whaleshark sightings)

Pemba/Tanzania: Fundu Gap, Njao Gap, Swiss Reef, Misali Island (excellent stone coral gardens, nice walls, abundant Indian Ocean

fish life, sometimes Mobula Rays, big Kingfish and other pelagics)

Zanzibar: Mnemba Island, Eleven Bank (excellent underwater mountain in the blue- go only with experienced local guides!)

Mafia Island: comparable with the best Maledive dive sites.

  13. Great shots!

I had been wanting to get a shot like "trumpetfish at Gangga housereef " for quite a while. It looks like you nailed that shot perfectly!
