Parranda burns and sinks in Galapagos

  1. Just caught wind of this. Fortunately nobody was hurt. Hopefully it won't turn into an environmental disaster.

  2. Gee that website is pretty mercenary. That boat you're going on sank! Come book ours!

Here's a venezulan paper covering the incident:

If it burnt down then hopefully the fire will take out most of the oil and fuel. I wonder how a yacht can burn down that quickly. It should have fire alarms and extinguisher systems built in.

  3. So now they got a small artifical reef in Galapagos.

Good that noone got hurt in the accident.

But I doubt that most of the oils and fuels burned before the yacht sunk, but let's hope for the minimal damage to the environment.

  4. I am friends with the family who owns Quasar Nautica, they are good people and it is regretful that this unfortunate incident occurred. Thankfully indeed all of the passengers are ok. They will keep us updated on any environmental concerns and also the cause of the fire.

They asked me to post the following official statement:

Thanks for the link to the official statement, Jason. In spite of this misfortune, Quasar Expeditions is still a wonderful company run by a very sweet family. I have no concerns about my cruise with them next spring.

Just curious - is there any news of the cause of the fire?
