Travel Insurance???

  1. I am traveling from Michigan to Turneffe Atolls and was wondering what is the best travel insurance for the price. I usually go on a vacation a year and have never bought the insurance but now know how important it is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi There,

A quick question for you, do you have DAN insurance, they also do a travel insurance which is what I use as this covers bags, cameras and more plus also then any diving or medical emergencies. You can find out more about it at their website. http://diversalertnetwork.org.

    Happy diving, and enjoy Turneffe.

  3. We used Access America (www.accessamerica.com) when we went to Dominica. They seemed fairly inexpensive and were recommended by my wife's mom's travel agent (who has made a mint off of the mom in her globetrotting retirement).

Didn't end up having to use it for anything, so can say nothing about customer service, rapidity / ease of getting claims settled, etc. They took my money without any hassle, though :(

  4. In January a group I was with was trapped by an earthquake in Costa Rica on the side of a volcano at 5000 ft.. We were going to leave the next day for Cocos Island.

Most of us had Dan's highest level insurance. Apparently, as we found out, Dan would have covered getting us out of there. It was not necessary, but apparently it is part of the Dan insurance. i even received a hand written note from the president of Dan when I got home. Asking if I needed any further assistance.

Not exactly the same as trip insurance, but good to know. Many thanks to Dan.

  5. I have Travelguard tied into my home policy. Depending on policy, they have scuba provisions. I've been med evaced out of Antarctica, PNG and South Africa and never got a stiff bill so it works darn well. Well they raise my premium by 3% but I fought it as it was tied to my home policy.

I'm not sure what DAN insurance covers but travel insurance covers rental cars, stuff stolen etc. Most policies have a per trip basis purchase. Travelguard has a cancel for any reason policy that's worth getting if you qualify.

  6. I had a recent trip that I had to use my travel insurance.

I had travelguard and can not recommend them.

Went ot Dominica, Liat rerouted us to Antigua (due to job action/strike by air traffic controllers and pilots) Lost a day, lots of hassel with Liat, Bags delayed 4-7 days, had to buy some clothes and toiletries, scuba gear missing.

Liat refused to cover the missed day, travelguard refused to cover the trip interuption, claiming it was Liats responsibility and they were secondary to them, eventually we got paid for our "lost day" at the hotel. Still waiting to get reimbursed for the items we purchased till our bags arrived and our missing gear. Travelguard claims they arfe secondary to Liat and will not issue payment till Liat either pays or issues a statement that they are not going to pay. has been 3 months so far.

Travelguard is an AIG company, need I say more?

  7. I've only purchased insurance a couple of times, but here's a link that compares companies and policies, http://www.insuremytrip.com/

I contaced DAN australia and was informed DAN do not offer travel insurance. They did say evac was something they could arrange but no insurance.

Have you actually got the DAN insurance or just heard from a source?

What insurance company do you use that has Travelguard tied into it?

  10. Hey, Reuban!

I use Travelguard, too. I get it through my homeowners which is through our local Auto association.

Glad to see you're still shooting.
