Sea & Sea DX-D80 Housing for Nikon D80

  1. It's been 3 months since my last dive trip and I discovered that I can not remove the connector cap to plug the synch cord into my housing.

Do you have any advice on

    1. How I can remove the connector cap?

    2. How to store my housing so that this doesn't happen again?

  2. Sounds to me like someone put their housing away with salt water still in the system?

Not to worry, we have all done it!

I know from past experience that boiling water will remove electrolysis. . . . . BUT. . . . and there is always a BUT.

    This is IMHO. . .

If you do this, you must immediately dry the bulkhead and then wash it thoroughly with alcohol and dry.

    This is IMHO. . .

CRC or RP7 or WD40 or whatever it is called in Hong kong sometimes works also. (It is a contact cleaner)

Just remember that I'm not an expert. . . :)

    Bruce...

  3. Are you saying the plastic protector cap over the end of the sync cord won't unscrew? Maybe it was a little wet when you screwed it on.

Did you try using pliers to get the plastic cap off? you just have to get the unscrewing started...

  4. Yes, it's the protector cap. So I guess I have to try 10x harder and use pliers. Thanks.

How about tips on how to protect the cap so I won't need pliers next time? Some people suggest WD40, some suggest silicone spray. What works for everyone?

Silicon grease in yellow tube (one came with S&S housing) should do the job too. Make sure just slightly hand tight next time.

  6. The pliers worked! It's not actually the plastic cap, I circled it in the attached photo.
