Sanyo has just announced the replacement for the VPC-HD1000, the HD2000 and it's horizontal camcorder sibling, the FH1. Both these cameras now support 1080/60p at 24mbps (max) AVC/H.264 .mp4 files. The 1/2.5" CMOS sensor also captures 12mp stills and also high fps sequences like 4mp at 12fps or 8mp at 6fps.
The old HD1000 had a Epoque housing for it and the HD2000 is in the same form factor and dimensions. So it should slot right in. It should make for a nice little BC backup camera. It even has 1/10k shutter speed. I like!
I'm happy to hear there is a housing option! I didn't know anyone was making them for Sanyo cameras. For me the new Sanyo combines small size, large optical zoom range and a housing option that doesn't break the bank. I wonder how it'll be in low light/underwater. I almost went for the Canon hv20, I'll be curious to see how the video from the Sanyo stacks up against it.
The combination might make a great little polecam.

I own Sanyo HD 1010, which is the predecessor of HD2000, and Patima Housing (after having read disastrous stories about Epoque Housing leaking regularly). This one works great, is extremely compact, allows manual white balance underwater. Good to hear HD 2000 should fit into this housing.
Cheers
Here are some shots of the Patima housing:
This housing encloses the camera's remote control, allowing extensive manual control including one touch white balance.
