What should I be looking for in a small video camera

4 posts
  1. I'm shopping around for a small, not too expensive video camera that I can use for 'snapshot' type video segments for my trip DVDs. I need something really small and easy to pack, but I'm hoping I can get HD. Splash-proof or the availability of a cheap plastic housing would be even better. Anything in particular I should be looking for or avoiding? I'm totally video illiterate so I hope I can count on some of the knowledge here. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  2. Try the Sanyo HD2000 with the Epoque housing. Really small and compact. Then write a report ;)

  3. Thanks, but those are not available yet and more than I want to spend for a "knock around" snapshot camera. It looks like it will start around $600. At $350 US the VPC-CA9 waterproof model would be nice, but its not HD. Anyone else here have any experience with the cheap and small HD video cameras? Although its not true HD, is something like a Flip MinoHD worth $230 or a total waste of money? It has no optical zoom but most in that price range don't.

  4. I wouldn't bother with the Flip but that's just me. I know a few people who like the compactness.

If you provide a budget and requirements (housed or not etc), then people can suggest what is appropriate for what you can afford and need. Otherwise, it's pretty difficult to help you with suggestions.
