Ike G9 housing, short port and a Inon UCL-330 close up lens

  1. I have an Ike G9 housing and 2 ds-51 strobes. I will shoot only with lenses attached weather it be the Ike wide angel or the Inon 330. I would like to not have to change ports at all during my trip. Will the 330 close up lens work with the short port or will it cause focus issues because now the lens is closer to the camera lens?

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

I have had no issues using one and/or two INON UCL-165s on the short port.

  3. As Jeremy says. you'll have no problems with this configuration though I do prefer to use the long port when shooting macro with INON UCLs. The G9's zoom range is significantly limited with the short port and this will have an adverse effect on your composition and framing opportunities. Be mindful that while the G9 shuts down and can be restarted if the lens is 'overzoomed' against the short port, doing this to often will damage the motor.

  4. I found that I tend to set the zoom on the camera and zoom with my fins some. That was my thinking in maybe using the short port would be OK.

  5. Do you ever use the G9s internal macro setting? Or do you rely on the Inon lens?

I always let the INON UCL glass do the work.

I don't think it does any damage ... but probably not worth testing that theory. :vava:

I found the G9/Ike works just fine with macro adapters on the short port ... but one of the great benefits of these adapters is that one can use them at the long end of the zoom to get macro magnification without having to sit right on top of the subject ... the benefit being two-fold: 1) You can back off a bit making it easier to use your strobes effectively; and 2) Some subjects just don't like you getting too close.
