Was at the Brac beginning of May and it was wonderful. Stayed at Brac Reef also, which I think was the best choice for resorts. Totally laid back atmosphere. The dive-op "reef divers" were very good. Dive masters Jason and Chris are also photographers, so they were very helpful. Be sure to kick in the extra few bucks for the dive trip over on Little Cayman. Well worth it. Do you have your flight booked from Grand Cayman to the Brac? I personally wouldn't fly Island Air again as they totally messed up a dive day by not picking up our gear the night before when they said they would. And then they kept telling us it was on its way to the hotel yet it arrived 6:00 at night! Island time is one thing but that was frustrating! I have a wish list of places to dive but I'd go back to the Brac someday.
Enjoy!
Stayed there also and we loved it. Outstanding diving on the Brac walls. Some of the best dievs are only 5 minutes from the resort.
Chris was great. Being a fellow Canadian she went with us on our last day touring around the island. We had a blast.
Food was excellent at the resort. I did get a couple of stings on the night dive but nothing serious by any means.
Lots of turtles, heck lots of things to see.
You'll love the Brac. My wife/dive buddy and I have been there 8 times and 2 times to Little Cayman. We always stayed at Divi Tiara (next door to Brac Reef) and it was super, but folks who stay at Brac Reef say the same thing, so I think they're both excellent.
We only met a few people who didn't like the Brac, and that was because it was too laid back for them, i.e., virtually no shopping, nightlife, etc. It's just really relaxing and Q-U-I-E-T. Unlike many dive locations, virtually 100% of people who go to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are divers.
The diving is absolutely superb on both islands. I would rate Little Cayman very slightly ahead of the Brac, but the difference is miniscule. Most dive packages on Cayman Brac include a trip to Little Cayman (about a 45-minute boat ride from Brac Reef to the Bloody Bay area). The walls are legendary, really spectacular, and there are tons of fish.
About Island Air: If you go to Cayman Brac, you have a choice (only Island Air to Little Cayman). We flew Cayman Airways the first few years, but we got tired of getting to the Brac at 9:30 at night and leaving on Cayman Airways at the ungodly hour of 6:00 AM. That may have changed, but the fact is, the big hotel/dive resort owners on Grand Cayman have no intention of letting people discover the wonders of the Sister Islands, so the Cayman Airways schedule is lousy on purpose. Island Air, on the other hand, has 3-4 flights a day. It's true that they have a 50-pound baggage limit, and we usually have to pay for about 50 pounds overweight at 50 cents a pound. Also, sometimes they don't send all of your stuff with you on your flight, but if that happens, they will usually give you a choice of what to leave behind. In any case, when that has happened to us, they always brought it in - at worst - on the first flight the next morning. The resort operators are used to this, and they work with Island Air to make sure you get your stuff ASAP. Usually your stuff gets there with you. We've flown Island Air the last 7-8 trips to the Sister Islands, and we wouldn't go back to Cayman Airways for anything.
Whatever you do, if you love great diving in a very clean, comfortable (i.e., good AC) environment, you'll love Cayman Brac and Little Cayman!
We were on the Sister Islands two months ago. You can see some of my photos at
