I have been into marine biology for about ten years and have just recently taken interest in underwater photography. As a beginner into this hobby I have been researching many different cameras and accessories that I could invest in. I am willing to spend about $1500.00 at this time and have been looking at the DX-1G from sea and sea. I am looking for a good starting camera around that price range. I am open to any suggestions and any help would be much appreciated!
Hi, I have one and absolutely love it - with mine I have the YS27 strobe. It is a very good camera to use I and I find all the controls etc easy to operate with gloves on. It has a fantastic macro mode down to 1cm which really allows you to get close and personal with your subject.
The only two faults I have with it are sometimes I find the strobe a little small for wide angle shots (for macro it is great) and when in 'manual mode' I find the LCD screen is very dark and hard to view underwater - I can not work out why, I know it has to do with the ambient light because of this I rarely use it and shot all primarily in 'Aperture Mode'. I highly reccommend it as a prosumer point and shot camera.
