Anyone use dual Ikelite strobes with an Ikelite housing and dual sync cord? If so, how do you manage the dual sync cord and specifically the approximately 1.5 inch x 1 inch cylinder which splits the two strobe connectors? It seems like I'm gonna want to fashion some kind of bracket to secure that thing to or it's gonna be all over the place, especially in a macro setup where there's a lot more slack. Any setup decriptions, pictures, or ideas? I shoot with a housed Canon 5D, with a single 12" double bouancy ULCS segment on each side for WA and no arms at all (just clamps connecting the strobes to the tray handles) for macro. Thanks.

Cable ties and insulation tape holding it to the left hand side post on bottom of strobe arm.
Helps keep the strain of the housing bulkhead.
Sorry not a great shot but all I've got in the office.
Cheers,
Richard B.
I've just obtained my second Strobe (DS-125) and picked up the dual cable, having rigged it all up i was wondering exactly the same thing regarding the cylinder lead splitter.. so i'd be interested in seeing more examples of how this is secured too.
Richard.. as i've practically the same set up (Ike housing, 400D, 8" dome + 10-22mm, Dual DS-125's) i was wondering about how negatively buoyant this set up is... as i've only dive the one strobe to date (and that's slightly negative)...
Regards,
Mike

I have a similar setup as rbailey -- I use a velcro wrap.

I'm also interested in hearing more about the buoyancy. I have an Ike housing, Ike arms, 400D, DS160's, that is several pounds negative with 60mm, slightly better with a 6" dome. I tried using the Stix 'like' foam (Divinycell) strapped to the bottom of the housing but it was too cumbersome and was still negative. I just ordered the 8" air filled arms and housing adaptors from Ultralight (http://www.ulcs.com/) and will test in the pool on Thursday. Feels like a science project.

I'd certainly be interested to know how you get on Thursday.. just had a peek at the ulcs site, which air filled 8" are you going for? They have the old and new (really fat i.e. super bouyant) ones listed..

I always use two arm segments/side regardless of whether I am shooting macro or WA and have the Ikelite dual sync cord. I just wrap the cord around the clamps (ULCS) as needed, and it stays in place just fine. Below is a pic of my WA setup. The splice is normally not in the way in WA, but sometimes needs to tucked away in macro. I also have a focus light for my macro setup that I usually wrap the slack cord around.

I have the 12 inch double bouyancy arms (the 2" diameter ones) and along with my 8" dome I'm ok. I'm working on rigging something up for my macro setup though, since I use a rig without any arms for macro. I'm thinking about finding some high density foam and wrapping collars around the strobes.

Are you using any extension cords in that image?

No. just the standard dual sync cord. Even with my arms straight out its long enough. The arms are a ULCS 8" (inner) & 12" (outer) on each side. I normally stretch the cord a little before looping it around the clamp for the outer segment, and then just let the inner part free float. Sometimes I'll hook the splice on the clamp at the my left handle if its getting in the way.

Mike, going for the fat ones. Waiting for the UPS truck now and will hit this thread again Friday.

Check this site out for the Divinycell foam which I think Stix uses. You can order to size, easy to work with, could fashion 'wraps' for arms or housing. I tried using it with my config (mentioned earlier) but I need to go to buoyant arms for my 60mm setup. Not a lot of air in the housing like a bi dome port.
