White Balance Filter

  1. HI

I was just browsing through filters and diopters on a site and came across this new filter, although it may not be good for UW most of us also shoot topside and so I am wondering if anyone has used it and if it is any good.

    Many thanks for comments

Expoimaging ExpoDisc Digital White Balance Filter, 77mm (did not put a link to a site but its on all photo sales sites, was not sure if that would be wrong to do or not)

  2. I just read quickly though the FAQ... the "filter" is just a screw on kind of grey/white-slate. So it is really not a filter.

So you have to screw it on, use custom white balance, take the "filter" off and then shoot.

AFAIk it is not useful under water, beside the prolem that you cannot put on/remove dryfilters. You need to white balance on a sun illumnated surface to let the camera read how much red is still left in the ambient light.

  3. Thanks Maarten, sounds like it would be more hassle than its worth.

Hope you are not getting snowed in.

  4. Hope you are not getting snowed in.

We had some snow yesterday but that was not much. temperature hit 5c today for the first time in weeks. No hope that it stays above 5c so the water warms up too :D

  5. I have an expodisk. It is basically a disc that you place in front of the lense, take a shot and use that image to set custom white balance. It is quite useful if you don't have any white paper around :D, there are also various tones availabel so you can have slightly warmer or cooler white balance if you want. It is not practical for U/W shooting though, and actually not that practical on land unless you are shooting a lot in very similar lighting conditions.
