So I've got a Canon 40D, 10-22mm lens, and a sigma 150mm macro, and I'd like to start taking them underwater with me. I realize that by most standards the 150 on 1.6 crop and with a flat port (1.33x) is an awfully long macro lens, but I'm not too worried about the learning curve.
I gather I'll need a housing, #6870.50, and I'm probably going for a DS160 strobe, then the ports are a bit more complicated.
For the 150mm I've found out that the #5505.5 port should fit (this is straight from Ikelite customer support) and that there's also a combination of pieces in their modular system that will work, but neither arrangement (that the support guy sent me) would give me manual focus. Having thought about it I think some well timed use of the AF-ON button would allow me to get around that, but if I can help it, I'd prefer actual control of the focus ring. (or maybe not, not having shot underwater I don't know how valid my land-based experience is)
Anyone use this lens with Ikelite housings and have an arrangement that can do manual focus? If not, it's not the end of the world though.
Lastly, the 10-22mm. I'm not sure how best to go about housing it. From what I understand about domes, the bigger the better for image quality, since it allows the lens to focus farther away on the curved virtual image, giving increased depth-of-field and therefore edge performance. I have to balance the "bigger is better" with budget and travel constraints, so I'm hoping someone on the forum has used this lens on ikelite and has some idea what a good choice would be.
The 5503.5 6" dome seems to be the obvious choice, but I'm just not sure on this one, and would love some help!
Thanks!
