Any experience of diving in El Nido, Philipines

2 posts
  1. I am planning to arrange a diving vacation in mid March. I will fly to Singapore first (Emirates have very low rate from my location to Singapore during those days) We will spend some 3-4 days in Singapore. And than i am planning to fly to a location to spend 7-8 days for diving.

I am looking for a location not very far away from Singapore, that i have never visited. I am considering Philipines and Thailand for possible locations.

For land based Philipines diving vacation i was considering El Nido since both diving and topside nature and accommodation were recommended by people that i talked to.

However i was able to find too little in the internet especially diving-wise. (including the forum posts here)

I would be glad to hear experiences of the ones who dived in El Nido.

  2. Hi, I visited El Nido in 2003, when I'd just qualified as a diver. Very beautiful scenery above water - all those islands and picturesque beaches! And some of the snorkelling was fun. But while the diving was OK it was not that impressive for me - quite a lot of brown / grey corals and few big fish. I only did about 5 dives however, maybe I did'nt see the better sites.

Of course to the north of El Nido is Coron / Basuanga, famous for its WW2 Japanese wrecks, if you like wreck diving.

If I was to reccomend a land based Diving Vacation to the Philippines, I would say fly into Cebu city, then travel south to visit Apo Island (just off Dumaguete, Negros), or travel to the north tip of Cebu to Malapascua island (another beautiful island with white sand beaches, and some interesting dives, including the possibility of seeing threasher sharks on a dawn dive). Have fun whatever you decide!
