Derawan Recommendations

Can anyone offer suggestions for diving Derawan? Thanks in advance.

We dived Derawan (Sangalaki area) in 2006.. in my opinion one of the

best trips we made yet.

For this area, you have the option of living on several different islands;

we lived on Derawan (the resort is a bit basic), and when we visited Nabucco

resort on Maratua Island, it looked a bit nicer. However Derawan has nice reefs

around it so you can pack more dives per day and house reef is good for

night dives.

If you stay in Derawan, in a 'water-bungalow', then ask them to put you in the

outer one (third from gang-walk), and definitely not the middle one.

These islands sound like great diving without the hassle of limited permits with Sipadan.

As you gather info keep Wil and I informed and maybe we can hook up there in 2010.
