Connecting HD Camcorder directly to HDTV...

  1. After doing a week of filming I finally connected my Canon Vixia HG20 to my Samsung Tv via component...its Bluray capable and 1080p. But the image quality is dissapointing. The image looks great full size on my computer but doesn't hold the same quality on my 42" HDTV. Is this just the weakness of the camcorder or does it have something to do with formating and post editing? Is it because I am connected through component cables? Thanks.

  2. You're going to have to be more specific about your disappointment. Do you have your camera setup for HD display? Did you try using the HDMI terminal? Check the manual to see if component supports 1080p. I think all the AVCHD cameras output 1080i via HDMI.

The HG20 outputs either 480/1080i through the Component output. Not sure if you have to set it or if that's the default. p.96 of your manual. Or use the HDMI output.
