Trawling banned, 200 trawling boats to be sunked...

As an interesting pro environment action, Venezuela had recently banned trawling on local shores. As a result more than 200 trawling boats had became inoperative, so the government had decided to sunk them in order to create artificial reefs along the Venezuelan shore. Due to the proximity to Bonaire, Aruba and Curacao, this promise to be an interesting option for wreck diving.
Now we have to see if the government actually do it.... but, if not the trawling ban is enough for good news!
So did the government buy them off the fishermen?
Sounds like a good idea, hope they follow through, or they will gradually drift back into service.
We have been trying to sink a barge here where I live for years - just can't get the local environmentalists and government authorities to agree!
Funny thing though, when a large chunk fell off the Roll on Roll off car ferry ramp it magically appeared on the seabed just outside the harbour at 25m.
