Has anyone tried the newer Tokina 12-24 in a S&S compact dome? Does it take the same zoom gear as the Nikon 12-24 AFS? Is a +4 diopter recommended? This would be in an RDX-60 housing.
TIA,
Jack

Hi Jack,
I am currently using that lens now. Optically, it is basically no different than Tokina's first DX 12-24, although it does have the motor built into the lens and the lens coatings are supposedly better.
Couldn't tell you how it performs behind a compact dome, haven't tried it. It does however perform the same as all other 12-24's behind a an 8-inch dome. Also it takes a different size zoom gear than the previous model. I own Subal housings and neither the Tokina or the Nikon 12-24 gear will fit. I had to resort to a gear for a Nikon 24-70 (closes inside diameter to the DXII) and sand the inside the gear a little for it to fit, which does now perfectly.
Can you tell me the diameter for the zoom ring?
TIA,
Jack
Approximately 73mm inside diameter.
Thanks Walt.
Boy, you'd think it would be easy one you know the necessary size, but TUSA/Sea & Sea has no idea what diameter zoom rings fit what sizes.
If anyone knows a S&S zoom ring that's about 73mm ID let me know please.
Thanks,
Jack
