I just received my new Z240 strobe - I have a Nikon D50 in Ikelite housing -looking at the jumble of the manual -i can't make heads or tails of it - can anyone give me a quick rundown on settings I can/should use - I was shooting in S-TTL yesterday (yes it was firing) - do I have any control of intensity with it ? or do I need to shoot only in manual and set my output to the F stop in camera ??? the Ittl bar in the housing wasn't lit up at all -I am using the electric sync cord too AHHHHHHHHHHHH HEEEELLLLLPPPPP me please
From what i understand you can only shoot manual with the ike housing and sync cable , Stt will not work ,
if you want Sttl you must use a fibre optic cable .
i use a older z240 strobe with a ike compact housing and fire the strobe with sync cable. i use manual strobe settings.
im not shure if the type 3 z240 has same settings as my type 2 but i use these settings
main dial set to
M -0.5 > -6
ev controller start at 4 and adjust up or down as neded
other button just push in and make sure it stays in
thats what i use
best of luck

this is true however I don't believe the ikelite housing allows for the flash to pop up. So you would probably need to call www.reefphoto.com to inquire about a converter to fit the bulkhead on the housing.
Hi all...
... AHHHHHHHHHHHH HEEEELLLLLPPPPP me please
Clearly not DIR....
.... I think it's manual control if you can't pop up the internal flash, or a TTL converter in line with the electrical bulkhead to allow TTL.
The manual is a notorious piece of work, by the way, but the only important bit is whether or not the strobe matching button is in or out, to tell the strobe what to do with pre-flashes (the danger is that it fires with the pre-flash, and not with the true flash as it has not had time to recycle)...

my (ex) canon 350D in ikelite housing can trigger strobes via fibre optic. i'm not sure if it's the same for nikons.
there's not enough space for the flash to fully extend, so what i did was to put the camera in the housing, then stick a finger in and pop-up the flash. or just mount the camera, turn it to Auto (the Magical-Green-Square-That-Makes-Awesome-Photos), put your hand across the lens to fool the camera into popping up the flash.
