Recent Mona/Desecheo Island reports/comments?

  1. Did a search...anyone been to Isla Mona or Desecheo recently? Can't find much of any trip reports here since about 2004 looks like.

I did find a couple reports from the Nekton Rorqual over the winter season elsewhere, without a lot of details about the diving itself.

Basically I've got a chance to slip into a couple of openings in Sail Juliet's summer itinerary, but really didn't plan financially on a vacation this year, so looking for either confirmation that it's a really rare worth-it destination (within the Caribbean region, not looking for comparisons to the South Pacific or Coral Triangle) or whether I can take a miss and not feel like I screwed up...?

Of course feedback on Sail Juliet also welcome. Thanks in advance!

  2. Wow, no one? (OK, I freely admit I didn't wait long... )

Ah well. Think I'm going to go for it and commit on Monday. The whole liveaboard on a 100 foot sailboat with only 12 passengers thing really appeals to me, and they do seem to have a lot of repeat visitors, so the op isn't a concern at all, just the quality of the diving since I'm bumping up vacation plans this year.

I guess I'll make sure I fill out a report when I get back, so the next searcher has a more recent one. :P From discussions with them so far via email, there are only a few moorings at Mona now and they plan on adding some in the next month or two before I'd go in July, so it sounds like a lot of the sites should be pretty pristine. (They also said depending on current they may run some of the dives as drift, in which case they'd have to be in a group vs. more free-form, which sounds like reports of how the Nekton Rorqual ran their Mona dives in the winter).
