Wet Lens compatability

  1. I've been digging through websites, and running searches through the archives, but have had no luck trying to get this question answered- and the good people at BH Photo were completely useless as well. I want to know which adapters will work with my housings?

I used to have an Olympus 5050 in a PTO-15 housing with an INON wide angle lens, complete with dome port, that worked out pretty well for the kind of diving I do these days. I wanted to upgrade to better video and sold the lens, since it didn't work with the new camera(s), and now I really miss it. I would like to get some kind of wide angle lens for one of my housings and am unsure if any of the adapters out there would work. The websites don't list my housings specifically, but the specs don't seem to be that odd that something shouldn't work. I'm hoping someone on here might have an answer for me.

My main camera these days is a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 in a DMW-MCTZ5 housing. Since this has a 28mm lens built into the camera I'm not holding out a lot of hope on this- since it would experience problems similar to those found in the Canon G9 and G10.

My other option is my old Casio Z1000 in a Casio EWC-80 housing. This has a standard round port that seems like it should align with something from INON, Fantasea, or Epoque. The only issue I see is the off set nature of the lens compared to the housing- others seem to have the lens directly over the base plate mounting screw that the adapters attach to.

Given this information is there anyone out there that could help me out? I recall that Sea&sea had an adapter for the Casio at one time, but have long since quit making it and there is no back stock- which I found out after I bought the camera.

BTW: Buying a new camera, like the G10, is simply NOT in the budget these days. The Panasonic isn't even a year old and I would lose too much money trying to sell it so I want to make something work with what I have.

    Thanks,

  2. Let me make it easy. There are very few cameras at this time that do well with the wet lenses, one that does is the Canon 570/590. You can view the Ikelite pages for each brand and see their recommendations. Not completely accurate but useful. At this time, the Canon A590 is your best bet for a manual control, wet lens compatible P&S.

  3. That doesn't help as I already own the two other cameras I mentioned. If I were going new I'd buy the G10 or the new Ricoh G200. I need to use what I've got.

Epoque wrote me back and said that their multiple lens adapter might work, but they haven't tried it out as of yet.

Looking around at what's out there it seems as if almost any Olympus housing can be mated with a wet lens. It also seems that there are a wide number of Canon and Nikon P+S cameras that would work as well. The Olympus housings have threaded ports on the front, but Inon, Fantasea, and Epoque all seem to make some type of adapter for the Nikon and Canon cameras.
