I'm looking at purchasing the Aquatica housing for my 5D2, I'm trying to decide whether to buy the Aqua Viewfinder to go with it. Now as you all know by now this camera has live view, would this make the view finder a redundant piece of kit now I have a nice 3.5" focusing screen right on the back of the camera, or is there something more to this view finder gadget that I'm missing? It's an expensive purchase!

I have never used a camera with live view so not something I can comment on. But the View Finder is a big improvement over the standard one. I love it and it really helps in filling the frame.
Background;
have 40D with Aquatica and Aquaview, have 5D MkII, waiting on housing.
Postcard answer;
"nice 3.5 focusing screen" - HaHaHa, very funny - I wish.
LV necessary for video, for stills underwater I expect it to be of value but only in specific scenario, otherwise useless.
Aquaview rocks, rocks, rocks!

PS, Aquaview Rocks ;-)
Thanks, I know it rocks, I hear that all the time, but why does it rock !!!
Why does it rock enough to want to spend more than a third of the cost of the housing obtaining one !!

As far as I can see the 5DmkII has live view not live focus. The focus is fixed when you switch it on unless you re-focus by pressing the switch on the body. It doesnt refocus by part-depressing the shutter realease as with the viewfinder. I find it as useful as tits on a bull.
I would say since adding the extended viewfinder I'm doing substancially less cropping because I'm getting my composition right in camera.
I feel that I'm now looking straight into the viewfinder rather than prior when I would have been an inch or two back from a standard viewfinder with my head and reg kinda side on to the housing.
That is the primary reason why I think it rocks.
Is it worth 30% of the cost of the housing....you probably need to get a dive in with one or similar to decide that. it certainly ain't cheap.

I have used the 5D Mark II out of the water quite a bit and like the live view when shooting tethered in the studio but fast auto focus is not a Live View characteristic!
Just got the Aquatica housing with the Aquaview viewfinder for the Mark II and look forward to diving with it on Sunday.

Very envious, got my housing eta on saturday, should see it by the end of the month, can't wait.
How was the dive? Have you used an extended viewfinder previously?
