Inon stobes or Ikelite

  1. Hi All

I would like some info on strobes I use the ikelite 125ds strobe but have enough of its weight when traveling anyone use the inon strobes and how do they compare to the ikelite 125ds.

    look foward to you coments

    Thanks

  2. Do some searching on past threads in the lighting forum. There appear to be a lot of fans of both. If weight/size is your primary interest, then from what I've read (no personal experience) you may like the Inon's. If you have an Ike housing and want to stick with the electrical TTL connection, you'd be giving that up.

So search other comments, and prioritize what you want in terms of particular feature areas for your overall rig, e.g.

    1. I shoot with a (DSLR/point-n-shoot).

    2. I (can/can't) open my camera flash to trigger strobes optically.

    3. Most important to me, in order, is: size/weight/batteries/light/recycle time/light color/ etc....

Then decide! On the bright side if you do decide to ditch the 125's, you should be able to get on the order of $500 for them used.

  3. I have an Inon D2000 paired with a Canon A630. STTL mode for the strobe is about as easy as it gets. I prefer Inon's fiber optic setup for point and shoots over Ikelites. The clear film system cuts out light scattering significantly. On a down note: I heard that Inon has dropped it's American distributors and will be selling direct from Japan. You might want to call Backscatter or Reef photo and ask what the status is.

  4. I've owned both the DS-125 and Inon D2000 (my current strobes). Both are nice pieces of kit. The size and weight difference is significant when carrying on your gear. I had one DS-125 develop a leak through the bulkhead and it was promptly repaired under warranty by Ikelite. I'm perfectly happy with my Inons and have had no issues over 3-4 trips (several years). You have three options with Inon: S2000, D2000 and Z240 which has electrical as well as FO connections. Several of the sponsors sell Inons and also take care of warranty work or repair in conjunction with Inon Japan. Should be non issues with repair if needed.

    I like my Inons
