Ikelite housing problem???

6 posts
  1. Hi

Just got my Ikelite yesterday for the Sony HC9

It is nice, about 5kg with camera inside.

Wondering about the reverse image circuitry

I did get it to work (what I thought was normal) yesterday

Where you turn everything on, see the LCD on the mirror the right way around and adjust the settings accordingly

But today it will only work if you turn off the RIC

So you see the LCD back to front in the mirror, adjust, and then turn the RIC back on (otherwise the camera is frozen)

The guy is emailing Ikelite, but it seems if it has worked once "the right way" should it not always do this?

Have I a problem with my kit?

    Any help???

  2. Ikelite said this was normal.

But, as I said, it did work the other way once.

So if this is not normal I am sure they would say this.

Seems like something Ikelite dealers should inform people of before buying.

You have to turn the RIC on and off several times whilst doing the WB.

    cheers.

  3. Ok, I've got an Ikelite and I had to take off the reverse mirror - my brain couldn't adjust. What the heck is an RIC? Can you clue me in? I've only been shooting for a year and am struggling to get the MWB down.

    Its the reverse image circuitry

What you see in the mirror is reversed

But if you plug the RIC in (provided your housing has it) it reverses the image so what you see in the mirror is what you would normally see on the LCD

Only problem is, when the RIC is on the camera is useless. None of the buttons work. So you have to turn it on and off several times while you adjust the WB, focus etc.

It works ok, just that you have to fiddle a bit more than you should.

  5. Hey Seven,

I also have the Ike housing and am shooting with a Sony HDRSR8 and have RIC on mine and dont have to turn it on or off to use controls. admittedly though I dont use the RIC anymore but when I first got the Ike I did use it for some time with no problems like you are describing. And I am presuming by controls you mean the touch screen controls not the manual buttons eg rec/stop.

    Exacly.

I got a reply from Ikelite today who said that it has to be turned on and off.

But like I said it did work once when I first got it.

So I am thinking "they" may be telling a fib

Have not used it and already its turning me off u/w video

What with all the buttons and white fins for wb etc it seems more hassle than its worth

But will be using in South Africa this weekend so probably will have a different perspective next week

    cheers
