Back in the pool - NWS maybe

  1. Back in the pool yesterday; tried some gels on the topside strobes. I guess depending where you work, maybe NWS. Here are a few that should be WP safe.

  2. My wife said it best partner, Amazing! The hair is wonderous in the first and the 3rd is pretty damn spectacular too. How did you keep the flowers from falling apart?

    Thanks!

    Steve

  3. Wow. The web can't do these justice.

I like the third the most and I'd like to see the first in B&W.

  4. Fantastic images Jeff! I love the last one - the lighting from outside the pool REALLY works well and the reflection is sweet.

I don't personally like the look from the gels, but I know a lot of people who do.

  5. Great job on those, really like the reflections in the third one.

  6. Sweet!

    Those are fantastic!

Can you post the settings used on the 3rd one?

Can you tell me a bit more about the gel? did it cover the whole strobe or just a part of it?

    Cheers

  7. Thanks folks. There are a few more I'm working on still. I clean these up a fair bit for good prints.

My setup for these was two topside studio strobes, one behind the model and one to my right, and one Subtronic Nova on the camera.

Gels were on topside strobes only, completely covering - one purple gel one pink.

    f9 - 11, 1/250 ISO 200 - 400, all strobes less than 1/2 power for fast recycle

  8. Buddy great work !!!

I like the 3rd and the 1st. excellent

  9. Thanks for the info!

    Great work again

  10. Third one for me. Mix of the reflection and the blue is working - a series of these would look great.

For me I am not too keen on the 'pink' gel effect.

    Great shots though.

  11. Very nice. The lighting and skin tones are very well controlled. I like the pink gel effect too.

  12. Very nice collection.

  13. Jeff,

Beautiful stuff, I really would like to see the first one as a large print. Are using any in-water strobes along with the studio lights above?

    James

  14. The lighting is great but #3 would've been better if you had the full body instead of cutting out the lower body. Just my preference as I think the body form would be more accentuated. Of course remember to NWS if there's nudity. ;)

Btw, the softness in #1... is that PS or are your corners soft? LOL

  15. Yes #3 is cropped for obvious reasons(not sure even an NWS warning would be acceptable ;) ); I think mostly it's interesting for the almost flower shape of the chiffon and reflection.

The softness is PS in #1 done with a gaussian blur layer and variable opacity painted mask. Her skin texture was way too sharp close up to be flattering. Corners were sharp with the 17-35 +2; apertures were mostly 9-11.

James, I had one Subtronic strobe on camera to the left, no gel on it.
