UW macro set up for Sony a350

  1. I would love to hear about anyone who has an UW macro set up for the Sony a350... What housing you use? Which macro lenses and which ports? Any suggestions you may have, and your general feeling about the set up would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much. I have been doing my research but as a first time SLR purchaser this stuff gets pretty complicated :( and it would be really nice to hear what has worked for you!

I use an a100 in an ikelite housing and if you want to use TTL you don't have much other choice for the a350 either. (Karin Brussaard wrote a review of the a350 in the 45th issue of uwpmag, you can find here: www.uwpmag.com . She used a BS Kinetics housing and she was happy with it, but it doesn't support TTL as I know.)

I use recently an old sigma 50mm for macro. It's superb optically but can be very sluggish. I also have a minolta 100mm macro but I don't have a port yet. On land this is my favorite lens. It's really perfect and cry for a port (I will buy soon). I'm also considering to replace my sigma macro soon and this would be my choice:

It could be a nice all around macro lens and would my first choice if I were you.

Ive been eyeing up the Tamron macro lenses as well, my question is if the lens is 6.5 inches long (tamron 180mm) and ikelite has a port for lenses "less then 6.5 inches" does that mean I have to go to the next port up at 7.1 inches? or can i get the 6.5 incher? Would the excess port interfere in the shot?

Also have you looked at the Tamron 180mm, it has a weird grip handle thing at the bottom and doesnt look to me like it would even fit in a housing or port, do you know anything about this, maybe I could just chop it off with a hack saw. hehe

Thanks for the info as I have just sent a long list of questions to BS Kinectics and my main question was about TTL, good to know, I guess Ikelite is the way forward... shame only two companies make housings for this camera

    Cheers!

I think the 60 mm tamron hasn't been released yet, but according to the specifications it's not that long (80mm and doesn't change dimension due to internal focusing). I wouldn't start with the 180mm macro, it would be difficult to use and limits the subjects to photograph. If you are looking for something longer, I would recommend the sony 100mm macro (I have the older minolta version). It's really fantastic optically and fast enough.

I have no experience with the tamron 180mm, maybe you need a custom port for it (the handle can be removed).

10bars has also a polycarbonat housing for a300/350:
