Ikelite Housing Rebuild

10 posts
  1. Hello! I have searched this board at length and can't find the specific answers I'm looking for. I travel for extended periods of time and would like to be able to do housing rebuilds when away from land. My housing is an ikelite # 6130.70

    So my questions are

#1. Is there a list where I can look up "O" ring sizes, material, and durometer for ikelite housings?

#2. Is there a way to find torque specs for re-installing screws and bolts on the housing, or what is the "rule of thumb" for how tight to go on them?

#3. Is there somewhere to order "O" rings, replacement push buttons, e clips etc...?

Thank you all for any advice, info, or help you can give me

  2. You probably have to burgle Ikelite in Indianapolis to get 1 and 2.

You can get spare orings and pushbuttons (incl. eclips) from any ikelite dealer......

  3. Would be surprised if any of the O rings were other than 70 Durometer.

Note though that Ikelite tend to use Quad rings rather than O Rings.

Other than that size wise they are all standard.

  4. I have a small stock of OEM replacement parts and the o-rings just look like o-rings to me. What is a quad seal and how does it differ from an o-ring? Servicing an Ike housing does not seem particularly difficult and is something I'll probably do myself when my housing is 2-3 years old. Having the genuine Ike o-rings and control rod springs available, I'll probably get Sealmasters (www.sealmasters.co.uk) and Springmasters (www.springmasters.com) to supply identical specification components at a fraction of the cost of the Ike parts.

  5. First of all thanks for the info and advice everyone!!

Looks like this page has a diagram showing a cross section of each.

My housing has Normal O rings but it is an old housing so maybe they have started using quadseals.

  6. Hi Tim,

It is a couple of years since I last had an Ike housing in bits - on mine some of the larger controls had quad rings - they are just lobed ORings and you sort of get two seals in one construct if you follow me.

Many other housings use two O-Rings (Subal are like this).

Think I may have some new ones in the workshop somewhere if you need any.

    ADDED Line

When I measured them all Ike rings were standard imperial dimension BS rings.

  7. UPDATE

Ikelite will not sell push buttons or the o rings that seal the lens into the port, and I don't have the time to mail the housing in for them to do it before the next trip.

Does anyone have a source or exact measurements on these?

    thanks again!

  8. I was a little wrong, but not totally : I have this kit somehwere:

I dont know what you know by orings that seal the lens into the port. : your housing is a compact housing ? that means the port is factory sealed : I wouldt replace those unless something leaked already.

Thanks for the link on the kit, I am looking for the actual buttons themselves also, but Ikelite refuses to sell them to me. The o ring that is factory sealed in the port/ lens is starting to extrude and I don't want to risk a flood.

Any links or advice on where to get the buttons and the o ring would be amazing!
