Hello all,
First post here. Pardon the dust.
I have been travelling for 6 months now, in order: Egypt, Seychelles, Kenya, Zanzibar, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Hong-Kong, Philippines and now Thailand.
Starting in Egypt was my first experience doing UW pictures and more generally pictures and even more generally shooting digital.
If you want to have a look, feel free to do so.
It might be a little bit inconvenient for you guys as there are 6 months of blog to browse through.
What could save you some hassle is to browse by month or country, the pages will be huge to load due to all thumbnails (some thumbnails may even fail due to the number of connections but it should not be a real problem). Sorry but I did not do a ' diving' category. I will do it later though.
I think that most of you should have a broadband connection though.
Please guys, keep in mind that these pictures are straight from the camera, no cropping and digital manipulation whatsoever, except a few one where I used automatic level (mostly the one taken from far away in bad visibility conditions, low light, etc...)
I'm shooting C4000Z with PT-010 and that's it.
That means internal flash only. No macro or wide angle lens.
That's mostly a matter of budget/knowledge/bulk/weight. I'm already travelling with 30 kg (15kg backpack, 15kg diving equipment) plus a daypack 5kg+.
Don't look too much at aperture and shutter speed or you will wonder what the hell are the settings ! At first I was shooting mostly f2.8 1/1000 (Egypt for example) which gave me the best results for what I wanted to. I like having a very low depth of field for most shots. For ' macros' it has proven to be tricky though. I experimented a bit more in the Philippines though and I'm quite happy with what I have found (even though I missed a lot of cannot-miss shots, I learned a lot).
A DSLR would have been great, but hey this was either the camera or the trip... I believe the cost of strobes / housing / lens / DSLR would cost me more than about 6 months of travel and diving. Flights included. I wish I could have one though. Maybe in a few years....
Finally I'm sorry but some of you may experience server problems. I recently switched from server since the previous one crashed 10 days ago. The migration was done, but your ISP may not have refreshed yet its DNS database. It means you could either end on the wrong server or you could have some strange behavior.
Regards,
Stephane
