Jardines de la Reina

  1. Hey all,

My fiance and I are going to Cuba for our honeymoon in August. This will be our second time there. We are hoping to do a week in Jardines de la Reina with the Avalon crew. During our dates we have the option of staying on either the Tortuga or the M/Y La Reina. Does anybody have experience diving on these boats? Which would you suggest? Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hello Chris

I've been twice on La Reina first time on May 2001 and last time February this year . I think the boat will give you more flexibility in terms of diving on the further dive sites also more time interaction with the silkies that usually stay most of the time around the boat .

La Tortuga must be more roomy but La Reina is more than adequate in terms of space , it's more rustic than the usual liveaboards from other destinations and definetly not a luxury or pampered service .

Normally the only offered 2 dives per day but if you ask for more you can do 3 everyday . Keep in mind that they don't have nitrox available and the top of most of the reefs are deeper than the average Caribbean destinations . Due to the distance from mainland and medical facilities is wise to be conservative on the diving .

If you need more specific info let me know

    Regards

    Jose Alejandro

  3. That's exactly what I was looking for. La Reina it is. Thanks Jose.

We spent 2 months on an old Minsk motorcycle in SE Asia, mostly sleeping in brothels and truck stops, so I think we'll be fine with the rustic accommodations. I really couldn't have found a better girl! :)

As for the dive sites, I'm afraid I may be content sitting under the boat with the Silkies and my video camera the whole time. When I remember to look around, however, I will heed your advice on caution.

    Muchos gracias!

Please post a report when you come back. I was there in 2001 and dream of returning. Most pristine diving you could ever dream of. I do wonder what those hurricanes did a few years ago.
