  1. Hi Gang,

I have been waiting for these to start shipping for a while and just got an email from Newegg today so I thought I'd share, as these will be popular w/ folks who use portable storage and photo viewing devices. These were announced a while ago, but I don't know when/if they have been shipping.

Anyhow, I ordered two of the Seagate drives today to use in my second drive bay and my portable hard drive.

    Cheers

    James

  2. Is heat generation a possible issue with the higher speed drives?

  3. As I told James, a few months back I had 2 of these and sent them back. 1 died after a few hours of operation as I was transferring my data over. I stuck with the 5400 which are slower but consume less power. I won't do SSD because the capacity isn't there yet

  4. Well - I've been running a 7200 RPM drive in my laptop for a while w/o heat issues but it's well cooled. If you use a portable drive enclosure that is not well cooled, the drive will obviously get hotter than a 5400 RPM drive.

I should be getting mine today or tomorrow so I'll post a followup. Hopefully they have improved since Drew's unfortunate incident.

    Cheers

    James
