  1. Im looking for what port/ext. ring combination for an aquatica to do close focus wide angle. Can I use a kenko 1.4?/ 10.5, will it auto focus? thanks

    hey vazuw

Many people do close-focus WA with just the 10.5, and a 6-9 inch dome port.

You can also use the 10.5 with the tamron or kenko 1.4 pro tele, and yes you can still auto-focus. Or you just get the tokina 10-17mm :)

The 1.4x tele will move the lens away from the camera another 20-25mm, so I would think a small extension ring of the same size would be beneficial, assuming the nikon 10.5mm lens was perfectly aligned in the dome port without the 1.4x tele, which is often the case.

It looks like aquatica's smallest extension ring is 29mm? so you might want to do a test with and without it. Perhaps Jean will have more advice, or Alex, he's shot with the 10.5 and the 1.4x many times.

    hope this helps

  3. Hi,

    I have been playing with a 10-17mm and a 1.4x kenkon converter a bit.

AF is no problem in all modes with my D2Xs

Unfortunately, I use a Subal housing, so can't quote on how it works with an Aquatica. I use a 15mm extension with the 10-17mm on its own ,a nd a 27mm with the 1.4 added. Officially, the Kenko needs another 15mm of extension.

My zoom ring actually still works fine too! I simply put it on back to front!

very nice! I need to try reversing my zoom ring, thanks for the tip.

btw, I just remeasured how much my teleconverter extends the lens on my Nikon body, I measured 19.0mm, so my 20-25mm range above wasn't quite correct.
