Canon G9 repair

  1. The LCD screen cover on of my G9's has developed a crack. Silly me for packing a small tripod on top of the cameras... Not a show stopper but I guess it needs to be sorted out. Is this a job for someone who has never been inside a camera before? Or should I leave it to a repair centre?

  2. Here's a report back on the repair.

A phone call to one of the three authorised Canon service centres had a new LCD cover on the way to me for just £15.00. I also found out from the service centre that the screen covers are just stuck on and only need a sharp thin bladed knife to ease them off the camera back. I used a seamstresses stitch cutter and then a cotton bud to clean up the adhering remains of the double sided tape.

So, an easy job after all. Hope this helps someone in the future.

    Tim

  3. I'm surprised they didn't stick you for the $139 (or equivalent) one-size-fits-all repair bill ...

    Pretty good outcome.
