Some type of Basslet?

Maldives last month. You can just see a dark spot in front of its tail. Nothing in my books that tally.

It is a wrasse, perhaps in the genus Cirrhilabrus.

Yep - common name is Fairy Wrasse - there are many types.

Cheers

James

Thanks guys, that's great and has pointed me in the right direction. I'll put it down to Cirrhilabrus exquisitus, Exquisite Wrasse, which is one of the few of this genus recorded in the Maldives.
