Sea&Sea has an option to replace the 5-pin sync connector to 2-pin at additional cost. Since I do not use auto or TTL, I am considering to have this modified on my MDX-D300. I am even thinking to do it myself. Has anyone attempted it? Is it even possible to do the rewiring yourself? Thx.

Sea&Sea Hsg: Converting 5-pin to 2-pin Sync Conn

I would not do it. You only need to put a little tape on the hotshoe like in the drawings at the bottom of the page below:
http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/sync_cord_d1x.html#seedown
and it will work as two pin connector. The difference is that if/when you want to use iTTL you only need to take the tape off instead of rewiring from 2 to 5 again.

You already have it.
I have the same MDX-D300, it has two connectors:
1- a 5-pin iTTL compatible for the TTL converter, useful if you buy it in the future.
2- a (already) 2-pin wired one for normal flash.
I use that one with a twin sync cable. And personally I think it is even better, one less o-ring to fail and a little less cables to tangle.

Thank you, David. The tape is definitely a better solution. I am going to try it out tomorrow. Yesterday, I opened up the caps to study the wiring and yes, it is possible to rewire but one has got to have delicate hands (soldering on the circuit board). That kind of put me off; too much work for too little benefit.

I have been shooting one strobe on slave and was thinking of getting a twin-sync cord. But Sea&Sea's option to convert gave me the idea to rewire it myself so I can use both connectors and save myself a twin-sync cord.

If only Sea&Sea would made this know to the customer . . . Thank you, again.
