  1. Again, Photobucket seems to be cooperating - maybe soon I'll learn to use Flickr instead, but till then here is the copy from this post, more on my site:

These photos taken with Subal 105vr port (fixed yea!!!! I can use that great lens!) & 20mm ex ring with 1.4X TC.

What do you think? Garden Eel = Abs?

"Garden eels, specifically yellow garden eels are fascinating and mesmerizing to observe underwater. It’s yet another neat creature, I’ve photographed in the past few days at Blue Heron Bridge, Florida.

But, check out its “abs”? Wow, is that a 6-pac or two? Or a 16-pac? Maybe some of our local gyms need to adopt a “garden eel exercise routine”; you know, simulate the waving in the current to pick off tasty bits? Seems like this garden eel is quite buff; here he is, crunched down a little more:

Hope you enjoy the humor... :-) Honestly, these garden eels are wonderful to watch and we are lucky to be able to observe them so shallow at Blue Heron. So put on a tank, dive-in, breathe lightly and note their amazing exercise routines!

    More to come, Carol"

Seems like the eels have been watching the biggest loser, if you look closely you will see they are in fact green morays who have dropped a size or two

    Cool shots. I need a 105 now I guess.....

  3. If getting a 16 pack means having a permanent facial expression like that, then I'm all for beer and TV (and Wetpixel of course) !

  4. I think that's the closest shot I've ever seen carol..nice job! I had a bazzillion of these guys off the house reef in Dumagette but couldn't quite get that close without spooking the little guys!

  5. They are one of my favorite critters. Great shots.

  6. Very nice captures Carol. If I had abs like that, I sure wouldn't be wearing a frown!

Nice seeing you at the bridge last week and thanks again for finding my lost focusing light!

I'm going back to the bridge this Sunday. Are you still in town? Robyn

I'll second that! They are amazing to watch - well done for getting close enough for the detail.

Thanks Robyn & no problemo! I think all of us were having a little friendly competition to find your FIX light!!! I just found it first. ;) Glad you have that thing tethered now! As I told you I heard several bad stories about either the slotted screw underneath loosening and the light going into the deep blue, or the lower connection to the housing failing (as yours did). I always have mine tethered so that if either of these things happened it would still be attached to a different part of the housing.

Back home now to get some work done! Enjoy the bridge and see you soon! Best Always Robyn, Carol

Thanks Elaine and everyone else who commented. I think the secret here is it is shallow, there is decent light, and I put the 1.4X TC on the 105vr so that makes the 105 quite long with a lot of working distance still.

    Ha Ha!!!

Drew this is the 105vr with the 1.4X TC, so what does that make it on 1.5X crop sensor? Anyway it worked for single eels, but not so good for a group of them (too narrow and viz wasn't good enough).

    Thanks All! Carol
