White balance and orange filter

With my old housing I had no possibility to use WB or filters. Now I intend to buy a Bluefin.

When do you use Wb and when the filter? Or do I need only either/or?

Most of the time you will want to use the filter AND do a manual white balance. Think of the filter as helping the WB do its job. Shallower than say 6m you may want to only use one or the other but not both. Deep (e.g. deeper than 30m, or shallower than that, depending on your preference) you will not want the filter in place at all as it will mostly just cut down light and boost your gain resulting in visually-noisy footage.
