I recently got a Patima G10 housing and some wetlenses and I'm experiencing some rather harsh soft areas in the shots taken with the wide angle wetlens (UWL100). I'm aware that some softness is to be expected, but I definitely think it's much softer on the right side of the photos! The left side I'm more or less ok with, but the right side make them almost unacceptable and would require serious cropping, thus canceling out the need for the lens in the first place...
Am I overreacting? Is this what I should have expected from the start? Does anyone else have similar issues?
Thanks for reading,
/Andy
Hi Andy,
I shoot a UWL-100 and dome unit on a G9 in an Ike. If I touch the zoom (which I don't!) then signifcant softening of the image happens around all edges. Otherwise (zoom on max w/a), there's just a tad of softening at the corners only. But it would seem as though all INON lenses are not alike... My son shoots identical equipment to me and on max w/a his shots show slight vignetting whereas mine dosn't.
I think the G10 just does not do well with these conversion lenses, the lens objective is to large in diameter and to far behind the rear element of the conversion lens. As well, at f stops below about F 3.5/4 it can get softer even with a camera that is a good match. This was shot with my 570 and Inon 100WAL with dome corrector, a little softness, not to bad. You have to remember there is a lot of stretch at the corners due to the fisheye effect even with the dome corrector--which may help you out.
