I've always been intrigued by the Wetpixel shark/dolphin trips that are organized. However, I have also noticed that all of these trip descriptions contain this language: "We screen our passengers, and accept advanced divers with shark-diving experience ONLY. "
That's cool and makes perfect sense but could someone please elaborate on exactly how much and what type of experience you're screening for? I've certainly seen sharks underwater. I even had a small reef shark bump in to me when diving in Kauai. However, I've never done the shark rodeo type dives that I see promoted. What type of dive experience is being referred to?
Thanks
David
I think it all depends on your diving experience and comfort around sharks. Obviously they have no real way of screening you so rely on you to assess your own experience and comfort level.
I think that if you are a moderately experienced diver with some experience and comfort being around sharks then you should have no problem, though I'd recommend starting with the Sharks and Dolphins trip in the summer. The tiger /Hammerhead and Oceanic trips are a little more intense.
If you have no experience or comfort with sharks, I would recommend doing one of the more 'touristy' shark dives like the Caribbean Reef Shark dives at Stuart Cove's in the Bahamas first. If as you say you had no problem being bumped by a shark and swimming around them you should be fine.
