  1. I have a SB-600 strobe and it usually will only synch to 250. In the past it would not let me dial anything higher than that. When I was shooting yesterday with flash, I just rolled the dial knowing it would stop at 25o, but it went higher. I have taken off the strobe and reattached it. Still will let me shoot flash > 250.

I guess my question is: Should I be worried that something is off with the camera's electronic?? Peronally, I like being able to synch at higher speeds.

  2. Custom Item e5 Auto FP

This allows the use of FP flash sync mode on your D90.

Auto FP lets you shoot with faster shutter speeds than 1/200 with flash, but with loss of flash power as you go to faster speeds.

This is only possible with a few strobes like the SB-600 and SB-800 or the newer SB-900 for instance.

It will not work with most (or all) underwater strobes like the YS110a or Inons.

In fact the D90 sync speed is 1/200, you are probably doing Auto FP all this time without knowing.

Flash sync speed is the maximum speed in witch your camera shutter is TOTALLY open for the flash to illuminate the whole frame.

In high speed shooting above the sync speed the shutter opens a small slit that slides over the frame.

To increase the sync speed you need the shutter blades to go faster, requiring a stronger and lighter blade (which equals a more expensive one).

In order to sync the flash above that speed, the flash needs to be "on" for more time in order to wait this "slit" to slide over ALL the sensor, using a lot more power, so in fact your flash is a lot weaker.
