Removing snow from WA with LR

  1. I'd welcome anyone's thoughts on this....

Lembeh is awesome for macro. WA shots are more "challenging" given the amount of particulant in the water.

Much though I try hard, there is always a good bit of backscatter in my WA pics. What is the best way of eliminating this using LR? The spot removal tool is good but not great for large volumes of backscatter. And the local touch-up brush can also be hard to use for removing backscatter.

Any ideas? Don't bother with WA? Develop a better photo technique? Use PS?!?

    Thanks guys

  2. Hey Tim,

Can you put up an example of the kind of image your thinking about? There are a couple of ways to make some improvements.

Have a look on this site

It has an PS action and a tutorial video for download... works great for me!

  4. Hi Dan,

I'd love to see the backscatter removal tutorial but my Mac can't handle the media format. The 'add sunrays' tutorial does work, neat! Any tips on how to open the backscatter tutorial?

    Thanks,

  5. The topic is old, but many people suffer for backscatter, a specially when they just started the adventure with UWP.

The expensive software is not for everyone and just simple tool for single spot removal are sometimes time consuming, but I decide to not give up and I found free software which can offer nice results.

Off course it is always better to improve the technique to get image without backscatter, but if You already have a picture with a lot of bright spots the You can try this.

    This is first example

    Original image

    and image after some post-processing

    Another example

    noise_removal-kopia.jpg

The software is ImageJ or also called Fiji

    The tool is "Remove Outliers"

In the second example I have used ImageJ, Iphoto to remove big spots and LR for overal image adjustment.

  6. Check out this video by Erin Quigley: https://vimeo.com/67522662

I used the surface blur/layer mask technique in PS for the first time two days ago and was blown away by how easy and fast it is.

  7. Can somebody help with a link to part 1?
