  1. All are now "green" except the older MacBook. Some speed bumps and also price drops on all laptops. Interesting is that they added FW800 back into the 13 inch model

  2. For the first time, Apple.com isn't updated with the new stuff. I guess they need to be reminded by Steve! :P They just lost me as a customer for the MBP. I guess being a minority 1% using the Express card slot on a 15" meas you don't get much love.

True, and if he makes an appearence today instead of the end of June :P

WWDC address is still going on, once they are done the store should update. Couple of other cool things announced, including being able to nuke your iPhone remotely if it gets stolen. Starting to hum the Mission Impossible theme in my head..

  4. Yesterdays announcements left me unimpressed.

Firewire never should have been removed from any of the models. And even my netbook has an Express card slot. Non user-replaceable batteries also turn me off.

That tablet I've been waiting for is still vaporware...

  5. Yeah I wish they would come out with a tablet!! I wonder if they will come out with something to compete with the netbook?? iPhones are great, but a really small comp is still better for lots of things.

Some of the stuff is okay I thought the biggest things for me (well one of them) is adding FW back to the 13", I thought it was crazy to remove it myself. Maybe enough postings on various boards got them to rethink it, there is alot of FW equipment out there still, and USB is not the greatest on the Mac. Okay for things like photo transfers, but some much video still needs FW.

Also not a big fan of non-replaceable batteries either, especially for longeer plane flights if no outlet available. But if this makes really does make less waste due to the life of the battery, they have improved battery life, could be okay. Doubt is was solely financial call because I would guess many people ge a second battery pretty quickly and they run not that far off of the replacements for the new books, especially if Apple does not expect replacements to have to be done for years.

Express card would be nice in the 13" also, but it may be segmentation still.

The built in reader is okay addition, except for those of us who shoot compact flash :P

Seems to be late this year, early next year based on the rumor mill for the tablet and netbooks.

  7. Still missing: > 2 cores, USB3, and FW3200. :P

  8. Yeah I'm about ready to upgrade my ancient G4 Macbook now... I have a 15" which is nice to work on, but awkward to use on a plane or tight quarters, so I may just save the dough and go with a 13".

  9. Yeah I have a 17" and its impossible to work with on any plans. I had to pick up a 13 just to do work on planes...problem is if you are doing a lot of video work, the MB Pro is much better, especially having the Express card slots. Wish they'd make an MB Pro in 13 inch! Even the 13" is difficult to use on planes when the person in front of you reclines!!

Um, they DO make a MBP in the 13" now... that was one of the big announcements. The only missing feature, as I see it, compared to the larger ones, is the express card slot.

To me, that's fine... the only thing I see those as being useful for (for my purposes, at least... what are you all using them for?) is a cellular modem, which I don't have and likely will never have due to the stupidly high monthly cost, and limited utility for 98% of my life.

I can't wait to pick up a 13" MBP, personally. Now if only Santa would come early...

The Express Slot is good for expansion cards to hook up drives (that is the big appeal to me anyway), though the chances are the 13" would not be a major workhorse, so FW or USB drives to the MacBook Pro 13" is probably fine. Also the video card is not quite as good as the larger ones (the larger ones have two) so for so pro apps may not work as well. Of course again it comes down to what it is used for, and with all the dive gear and photo/video stuff, the smaller footprint and lesser weight is something to consider (though the 15" is only a pound heavier and not that much larger, though every bit may help depending on what you carry.)
