Sigma f/1.4 primes for Canon cropped sensor

3 posts
  1. Anybody have anything to say about the Sigma 30mm or 50mm f/1.4 primes, both of which have EF mounts but seem tailored to the cropped sensor Canons? I'm looking for a good lens for taking photos of a baby in low light. Reviews suggest that these might be better than the Canon 50mm f/1.4, and the Canon f/1.2 L is just way too expensive.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  2. It's a little bit sharper at 1.4-2.0 than my EF50 1.4, but it's bigger, heavier and costs more so I stuck with my EF50. I usually have issues with the Sigma QC but the 2 lenses I tested at the store performed similarly... a first in my limited experience with Sigma.

If you already have the 50 1.4 then it's not worth the upgrade unless you shoot exclusively at 1.4-2.0.

  3. Yeah, the weight, price tag, and likely QC issues with the Sigma have me leaning back towards the Canon. Thanks.
