Yes, use a simple rubber strap wrench - like this:

(Linking as example - I've not shopped at this site...if you spend more than about US$10 equivalent, you're spending too much....)

It works fine and shouldn't be able to damage the extension.

  4. It's a good idea to buy two. Sometimes if you use a combination of extentions having two strap wrenchs will come in very handy.

  5. I use the rubber disk that is used to open jar lids. It gives a good grip and seems to work for me.

  6. My old Ike dome port extension came with a rubber strap wrench, although getting a good grip can be a bit tricky sometimes. If the extension port was *really* tight I found putting the housing into a freezer for a few minutes will cause some minor contraction and can ease the unscrewing process. Don't leave it in for too long though if u go down this route. Alternative is to grip it on the top edge with a slightly damp, thin cloth , hold the housing between your knees and use brute force... :)

  7. I use the strap wrench for larger extensions but for the 10-17mm one its hard to get a grip with it.

I find just using the rubber strip of the strap wrench on the extension lip generally works well, that way you can push on the flange of the extension with your thumbs without crushing them.

Not letting it dry while salty is the other bit, not that Ive ever done that, noooo.

  8. I think this is a really crap design, mine has been jammed on since the first dive with it, 1 year ago.

  9. The word for this is "grease" as in Ikelite o-ring grease

Any extension for Ikelite's multi-port system should have a light coating on the very fine threads when installing it. Makes it spin in easier and even after a couple of years diving will come undone.

Using a strap filter wrench (I do) on the shortest Super wide extension is a bit of a challenge as it's very thin. I put the "knuckle" part of the strap wrench after tightening the band up right in the slot on that side you're trying to loosen. Having someone else grip the port black ring helps too.

One customer sent me his that was tight and I did put a thick towel on the slot, then tapped it with a dull chisel and a rubber mallet to loosen it. Once I did that it spun free.

    Good luck!
