Hi,
Has anyone tried a Canon 500D with an INON D2000? I've got a 500D and housing it in a Sea&Sea RDX-450, got the opportunity of obtaining a D2000 type 3 reasonably, just wondering if it will work with the new camera.
Any help appreciated.

Should work perfectly. Optical trigger should be fine.

Yep, like Bill said, it fires optically. So you'll have to have the camera's internal flash popped up, and run a fiber optic cable from the housing to the strobe to fire the strobe.
good luck!
